Overview
Please note this tour is basic, the local guide doesn’t speak English.
This tour is executed mostly for Belgian and Dutch students.
The accommodation is very basic in hammock.
The area is amazing though, nature, birds and of course sea turtles.
If you wish for a proper explanation in English from one of our own guides, we would recommend Galibi as 2 day tour or Braamspunt as 1 day tour to see the seaturtles.
Relax on the beach and witness a special event in Matapica: the egg throw of the sea Turtles.
The beautiful nature and the lovely white sandy beach and the ocean.
In the Commewijne district there is a piece of nature reserve called Matapica.
Four different types of turtles lay their eggs during the laying season.
Large populations of the leatherback turtles come here, which can grow up to 2 meters long and have covered tens of thousands of kilometres to lay just here (as they were born here before).
Another big species is the green soup turtle (in surinamese: krapei).
Then there are the smaller Warana and Karet species.
Apart from the turtles Matapica is also a paradise for bird watchers as it is a breeding ground for various tropical bird species.
This is a 2 day tour, accommodation is in hammock (very basic).
