Overview
Jaw Jaw is a Saramaccan village in the heart of Suriname alongside the rapids of the upper Suriname river.
This village, or the island Isadou which is on the other side of these rapids is the starting point from this tour.
Depending on availability and other bookings, the location will be determined. However they are so close it is possible to cross the river and visit the other accommodation, especially if the water is low in the dry season.
This tour is unique in its kind, because the resorts are owned and also ran by local people.
This allows for a closer look into the lives and culture of these people.
The people are kind and open, so if you have any questions, just ask them. (they do not always speak english very well, but there is always someone to help translate).
Sleeping is in beds in lodges with mosquito nets, and bathroom with shower and toilet.
The program consists of a village walk, a forest walk and caiman spotting on the river.
For an additional price it is possible to go upstream and visit the Marroon museum or different rapids.
