From Leonsberg Leonsberg Ferry Terminal the adventure begins with dolphin spotting first on the Suriname and Commewijne river. This river dolphin is called profusu in Suriname and its habitat is the brackish water.
After finding and enjoying the dolphins, all the pictures taken, the boat will continue for Johanna Margaretha plantation.
Here we will get off and enjoy a nice Hindu meal.
The plantation is an old sugar plantation, which is now inhabited by mostly Hindustani families and also some Javanese and Guyanese.
After the roti dinner you will be given some time to prepare for the swamp. (change clothes, the more you cover yourself the better and of course apply musquito gel). When everyone is ready, and it is dark enough, we climb in a small boat to find the caimans.
This is an adventurous boat ride to the swamp (listen carefully to your guide or boatman for safety).
The captain uses a branch with a special loop on it to catch the caimans pain-free and easily.
He will then tie an elastic around the mouth of the caiman and you can safely hold the caiman, after which you can take a picture with the animal.
After the photo moment the little creatures are set free again back in their habitat of course.
Expected return time at Leonsberg is around 21.00 pm.
