The green district of Commewijne is located directly to the east of Paramaribo, on the other side of the Suriname River. In this oldest cultural area of Suriname, numerous remains of old sugar, coffee and tobacco plantations can be found.
Per boat:
We start the tour at Leonsberg at 10:00 am, from there we board the boat towards the fortress New Amsterdam.
There we will visit the open air museum and you will receive a full explanation of the role and function of New Amsterdam through history.
After that we leave new Amsterdam by boat towards the Rust en Werk (rest and work) plantation.
Here you will receive an explanation from a local resident or our guide about how life was on the plantation.
The next stop is Johanna Margaretha plantation.
From here it is optional to include Frederiksdorp and entrance to the Story Museum there.
This plantation, which has been restored to its old glory, is definately worth a visit.
