In the morning we leave from sidewalkcafe ‘t Vat and drive south.
The first stop is the former Suralco Bauxite plant for some information on the history of the bauxite in Suriname a coffee and a snack.
From here we go to the hydrodam at Afobaka.
There are some amazing viewpoints on the site and also this history is very interesting.
After this stop we drive to the Transmigration villages of Brownsweg and the guide will tell you about their history as they were affected by the reservoir and also of the area.
Our final location is Ston Island, a lovely resort on a peninsula in the lake.
Here you can swim in the Brokopondo reservoir, relax in a beautiful ambiance.
For the fishing enthusiasts it is recommended to bring rods and gear.
With a minimum of 2 people we make a boat ride to Baboon Island where we look for howler monkeys (a family of them inhabits the island).
With 4 and more people and more we take a boatride from an hour on the reservoir.
