Braamspunt Seaturtle tour - 1 Day

Overview

€ 60,- per person | € 50,- per  student | € 50,-  per child (3-12 years)

Braampunt is a sand bank located at the mouth of the Suriname (and Commewijne) river, in the Commewijne district.
From the Leonsberg pier we go per boat on the Suriname river.

The dolphins prefer brackish water and they occur at the place where the Suriname River and the Commewijne River merge and flow out to the Atlantic Ocean.
Depending on the tide they are more upstream or further out to the sea. Our local boatmen are experts in finding them.

After spotting them for a while, pictures taken and everybody satisfied we continue our boat ride to Braampunt to experience how the sea turtles find their spots.

Arriving at Braamspunt there is a little bit of time to kill, which we spend eating dinner and possibly a beach walk.
Once circumstances are right (when it is dark and the tide is right) the searching can commence.
The time span for this is very variable because of these changing circumstances and moonlight can be a bit of a spoiler here.
Patience is sometimes required and will be rewarded 95% of the time.

You can capture this event – which can sometimes take hours for just one turtle – via video or photo camera (mind you, in the dark without flash, the only light that can be used on the beach is red light).

After experiencing this we return to the boat satisfied and often a little tired (usually around midnight, sometimes as late as 2 am) and from Leonsberg we make our way back to sidewalkcafe ‘t Vat where the tour started.

Faq

Do you give a guarantee that we spot the dolphins and the seaturtles?

Short answer: No.But there are high chances of spotting. (95%)

We work with the nature, depending on the sea-levels, full moon are the chances everyday different to spot. But when we look in our tracking-results for the past 5 years. We have a 95% spotting-rate of the turtles and even higher for the dolphines (98%)

Do I get my money back? If we don't spot any turtles and / or dolphins.

No, we can not do this.
We work with nature, we do not control or influence these animals.
The odds are very high though and to not spot both has so far never happened.

Do you serve vegetarian food?

If this request is made in the booking at least one day upfront, we do, however, if the tour already started it is not possible to change this due to the remote location!
This also goes for allergies etc.

What time do we get back?

Depending on the group, the time the first turtle comes, the length of its process, the sea and moon tides, this is very variable.
Usually between 23:00 and 02:00.

Will you bring us back to the starting point?

You will be returned to sidewalk cafe t Vat, the startingpoint.
If you need help getting a taxi the guide can always help you out, just ask him or her.

Is Braamspunt dangerous?

No, though it is a bit remote there are fishermen, that live there (mostly Guyanese) and there are inspectors from the government to see that rules are followed and that the eggs are left in peace by the pouchers.
