Overview
During this tour we visit the following 3 districts; Saramacca, Coronie and Nickerie.
In Saramacca we make our first stop in Groningen where we will visit the various monuments and learn about its past, the first dutch settlers as well as the former lepper colony.
Groningen offers a lovely view over the Saramacca river and for those that are very lucky, manities have been spotted here.
When there is market we will visit that also.
After visiting Groningen we will drive on to Coronie, where we make a stop in the capital of Totness.
Coronie is known for the many coconut palms and typical Coronian houses as well as its kind people.
After our lunch we drive on to the district of Nickerie.
In Nickerie there are a lot of rice fields, that and bananas are its and Suriname’s main export products.
We pass along the famous Flying Farmers and many rice fields and banana plantations.
We make the first stop in this district in Wageningen where we visit the former SML factory (foundation for automated farming).
After visiting this interesting town we head for the capital: Nieuw Nickerie.
Here we visit the small center and go on to the “Zeedijk” where we visit the backtrack route to Guyana and the famous Hindu Tempel and crematorium.
After a long day we get back home in the evening, with a lot of new impressions and memories!
